  Preambul

  Raportul anual (2001) al Organizaţiei Mondiale a Sănătăţii arată că tulburările psihice sunt o importantă sursă de disabilităţi, cinci din primele 10 poziţii ale ierarhiei bolilor în funcţie de capacitatea de a genera disabilităţi fiind ocupate de tulburări psihice. Prevalenţa pe viaţă a acestor boli este de aproximativ 33% ceea ce înseamnă că unul din trei oameni va avea, la un moment dat, pe parcursul vieţii, o tulburare psihică diagnosticabilă prin criterii internaţional acceptate. Prevalenţa pe 6 luni este de aproximativ 20%.

• Dutch Law on compulsory Admission

  Introduction

  The Psychiatric Hospitals (Compulsory Admissions) Act came into effect on 17 January 1994 and replaces the earlier Lunacy Act dating from 1884. The most important objective of the Compulsory Admissions Act is to safeguard the legal rights of persons suffering from a mental illness in the event of and during involuntary admission .

  The Romanian human rights organization Center for Legal Resources - Centrul de Resurse Juridice - published a small report about the living and treatment conditions in various psychiatric hospitals in Romania at the beginning of 2004. The director of the Center at that time Mrs. Renate Weber is nowadays an adviser of president Basescu. So the president knows from almost first hand the situation in the hospitals. I hope that he also knows that the criticized condition in hospitals like Gataia, has nothing to do with lack of dedication from the staff.
