What is your aim in seeking publicity

Publicity is one way to spread knowledge about psychiatric disorders and the possibilities of their treatment. A wider public knowledge can support the efforts to reach a better position for clients, professionals and institutions in psychiatry.

‘Unknown’ implies: no love and no money.

Other medical fields like cardiology and surgery often receive publicity more easily by spectacular breakthroughs in medication or technical methods.

Just like cardiology or surgery psychiatry is able to save lives, to cure people or alleviate their suffering – and yet psychiatry is less highly esteemed than most other specialisms. This phenomenon is not exclusively Romanian, it occurs all over the world.

It is caused by the fear of mental illness, the stigmatization of psychiatric problems. Other fearsome disorders, like cancer, are gradually losing their stigma. Just some twenty years ago most people would not dare to pronounce the word ‘cancer’, but would try to exorcise their fear by naming it ‘c’.
